How did dengue and 8 days of rest affect my body?

Image
This is what dengue plus 8 days of no running did to my running fitness. I keep a very comprehensive running logs and from time to time, I will analyze my performance to see how much I've improved/regressed. So this is what happened. I have been absent from the running scene for the past 2 weeks due to dengue fever. The last run I did was the Par series 2. I was still OK during the race in the morning and I'd actually planned to run a LSD later that day. However, my body started to feel quite unwell. At first, I thought I'd pushed too hard during the race which led to the soreness in my body but later that night, I got a very high fever. No surprise, a few days later, I was diagnosed with dengue and got admitted to the hospital. I was actually in the middle of preparation for the SCKLM. Par series 2 was actually already at week 14 and everything was going on pretty smoothly until dengue hit. Based on my past experience, 8 days of no running won't actually cause a dr...

Marathon Training Schedule for SCKLM'16

Image
How to create a Marathon training schedule? I'm going to share how I came up with this training program for the SCKLM this year. Before that, I would like to clarify a few things: i) This is not a guarantee program . There is no such thing called guarantee. I'm just sharing the idea. Not the exact distance, pace or workout. It might not work for everyone. Please try and error. ii) There are plenty of training schedules made by world famous coaches and runners. The reason I don't really use their schedules is because most of them are customized for a final goal run. They usually start with a few weeks of base building phase and have a few micro cycles targeting different body systems which will make us peak right before the final goal run. For me, I prefer to start straight with some speed works and hope to perform well in other races throughout the whole training cycle . The fundamental training philosophy is still almost the same. The consequence of doing the speed wor...

Macau Marathon - DNF is not easy as thought

Image
I was not sure if I wanted to write about this. I actually planned to just bury it and not to mention it at all but after talking to a few friends I changed my mind. They told me to write it out and then get over it. I was actually fine and got over it for some time already but I thought I should also write it to keep it as a memory. Before that, let me put one selfie first. LOL Whoa! Who is this handsome dude! Alright, it was a DNF. If this was an usual DNF I won't be so upset but this wasn't. This DNF was quite unusual, it was a significant one. Yes, I DNF the Macau Marathon due to the injury. Why was it so significant? It was a race that I had prepared for 25 weeks. Yes, it's not a typo, it's fucking 25 weeks! I can't tell you how I felt the moment I DNF! Although I had been half expecting it I still got hit pretty badly. No words to describe. I think I will just share my training log and it will explain. My 25 weeks training logs! You might arg...

How to find out your training pace?

There are tools and apps to help us to find out our training pace. For example: Mcmillan Running Calculator or Jack Daniels' VDOT Running Calculator . But I prefer to do my own calculation so that I can have the full control to customize it. This is how it can be done. First, we will need 1 of our recent race time. Any race between 5km to 21.1km can be taken as the benchmark. Race shorter or longer than this range is not recommended as they will yield not so accurate result. If you do not have a race then it's recommended to do a time trial. Say for example: Your 10km race time is 50 minutes. What will be your training pace for Marathon? Here are the steps: 1. Remember this formula T 2 = T 1 x (D 2 ÷ D1) 1.07 P 2 = T 1 x (D 2 ÷ D1) 1.07 ÷ D 2 Where, T 1 is the time achieved for D 1 . T 2 is the time predicted for D 2 . D 1 is the distance over which the initial time is achieved. D 2 is the distance for which the time is to be predicted. P 1 is t...

Image
